Biography: Chris"Topher"
Sipes was born in Bedfordshire, UK but grew up mostly in
San Antonio, Texas. He has been drawing for as long as he
can remember, taking inspiration from the cartoons and video
games of his childhood. He was fortunate enough to meet
the Warner Bros. director, Chuck Jones, at an early age.
For several years he was mentored by Harvey Williams (worked
on Rocky & Bullwinkle, Raid commercials, numerous General
Meals cereal mascots, The Smurfs...)
Statement: Topher's animation aspirations evolved once
he aged and realized art's potential to influence social
change. Currently a Communication Design senior at Texas
State University - San Marcos, he has worked at the campus
newspaper, The University Star, for several years as a designer,
illustrator, and comic strip artist. These days, Topher
does freelance design and illustration, organizes art shows
at Tantra Coffeehouse, is a member of local art group, The
Dormouse Fantabulous, creates design for the Department
of Multicultural and Gender Studies, and creates the comic
strip, The San Martian Chronicles. He now considers himself
an "artheist" who believes that art and inspiration
can be found everywhere.
